The Floods in Thailand

flooding in Thailand

Less than two weeks ago, I published Astrology of the Land of Smiles and that covered the emotional story of the boys trapped in the Tham Luang cave.  It was a monsoon flood that caused all the problems.

Since September 24th and still ongoing Thailand and the capital city of Bangkok has been hit by serious flooding causing untold damage and delays at the airport. So I could not help just checking as to  why Thailand was suffering so much. Many astrologers linked the Lunar eclipse of August 28th to the landslide floods in Nepal with  terrifying videos circulating on the net of whole villages being wiped away as it was captured first hand on hand held phones. Thailand has also suffered from waterfall surges in the mountain regions near Chiang Mai and other regions across the country.

Now that I have started to analyse the Thai national chart (24th June, 1932) , I can’t help but see some striking alignments to both the recent 12th August Solar and August 28th Lunar Eclipses. While it is not about direct causes, there are symbolic pointers here which might explain the extreme flooding and damage to Thailand’s infrastructure happening right now. This is is odd because neither of these eclipses were visible over Thailand, but the synastry charts show several challenging aspects. And eclipse effects can continue to reverberate.

Several things stand out from comparing the Thai National Chart to the Eclipse charts:

Thailand is experiencing a Jupiter Return at 20° Leo. Jupiter brings ‘big’ events expansion and that can be exponential and get carried away with itself. Jupiter can be beneficial but not always and it is exact on October 3rd.  This degree is where the Solar Eclipse occurred on August 12th. While it should be a time for celebration, until people affected are all safe, apparently not. This degree will receive repeated hits over the next few months.  That goes right until May 29th 2027 when Jupiter is there for the last time hitting that 20°  eclipse degree. So as I said about the Tham Luang cave boys, the story is not over yet.

Common to both eclipses is that Pluto is conjunct Thailand’s natal Saturn in early Aquarius. Pluto and Saturn are two powerhouses. That could spell disruption to the collective systems that operate such as at airports, and delivery services but among different groups of people who may have to help each other in humanitarian ways.

Other aspects are noted in the diagrams showing that the alignments are striking: The Solar Eclipse Sun and Moon are on this same Jupiter point in Leo in the national chart. That gives this eclipse significance for Thailand. Transiting Uranus is conjunct Thailand’s natal Mars at zero of Gemini. Transiting Mars is conjunct Thailand’s natal Sun in early Cancer. Mars and Uranus would point to any earth events, earthquakes, landslides and flash floods.

The Lunar Eclipse synastry of August 28th shows the quickly moving Moon moving to Thailand’s natal Moon in Pisces. Likewise the transiting Sun which is conjunct Thailand’s Neptune which can bring floods and waters. Uranus is square to the opposed eclipse Sun and Moon. Transiting Mars is conjunct Thailand’s natal Venus/Mercury.

The floods are still serious but getting under control and if you happen to live in the Silom/Sukhumvit area of Bangkok the streets are dry as the storm surge drains protect that area. Remember that Bangkok is located in the Chao Phraya river delta quite low to almost sea level. There was 300 mml of rain in 48 hours. The eastern part of the city which had the worst floods is lower than the central city areas and that is represented by the rental premiums.

flooding in ThailandThe astrology reveals aspects that look challenging but with Jupiter there’s always a way around it. Solutions will be found. And when the King Vajiralongkorn speaks out to direct financial help and hospital care where it is needed, that’s a sign the whole country is now mobilised to resolve and repair the damage caused.

Interesting too is that Thailand’s Chiron is conjunct their asteroid Eros in the sign of the body- Taurus. There’s a lot to say about that but it might need to be in another article.
