1: How to Embody an Archetype
No other system confirms hunches time and again as much as astrology. It underscores the formulation by Hermes Trismegistus of ‘As Above, so Below; as Within, so Without‘ and these synchronicities construct the threads of reality and asteroids pinpoint some of these threads with extra precision.
This is one is just about Eros and how it shows up for singer, dancer and now actor, Harry Styles.
I noticed that back in 2021 Harry Styles made a cameo appearance in the film ‘The Eternals’. He has been cast as Eros in Marvel comics universe. The other names of Eros are Star-fox (sounds like another similar word) , Knave of Hearts and Defeater of Black Roger.
How much Marvel comics borrowed from mythology is debatable but one thing is certain- these comic heroes all have god-like characters and desirable superpowers like flying and being invisible. They act like larger than life archetypes. Because they are archetypes. Eros and Thanos in the Marvel film series have antecedents in Eros and Thanatos- Love and Death – in Greek myths.
The character of Eros is loosely based on the Eros of Greek mythology. There are two phases of Eros- the primal god of desire and the hedonistic playboy with bow and arrow who strikes people with love as their medicine. But there’s speculation whether Styles will be resuming the role of Eros. Was that cameo just a teaser? Is he good enough to carry the role across a whole series of films? He certainly looks the part.
Rumours were rife during the early part of 2022 until it was announced in June 2022 that he landed a five picture deal with a possible standalone film into the origins of Eros as well which will make Styles eventually the hero of his own epic film.
2: Casting Styles as Eros
And it all fits perfectly with the astrology. I’m not a casting director, but if I were these pointers might help.
Harry Styles is a good fit to play the character of Eros because:
- He was the ‘cheeky’ chappie from all boy band, One Direction.
- He acts like ‘Casanova.’
- He has funky wavy, out-of-control hair that could be called ‘kiss’ curls.
- He’s a ‘heartthrob’ -an innocent school boy face but with a dirty look in his eyes.
- He’s witty and charming which translates as ‘seductive’.
- He was found in a broom cupboard snogging one of the girls backstage. So, it contributed to his appeal as hedonistic bad boy- just like Eros.
- He dated an older woman when he was 17. (She received death threats for that, but it only added to Styles’ reputation. Death is the brother of Eros in the myth).
- The director of Eternals, Chloe Zao, said ‘he has a lot of Eros in him.’
- He played a closeted policeman so his appeal is to men as well as girls – Eros was playful across sexual preferences.
And, continuing from the astrological point of view:
- His asteroid Eros is at 26° of Pisces in the 5th. That’s 2° degrees from Neptune’s current position in Pisces, and it’s getting closer. The Eros symbol is a heart shape pierced by an arrow.
- Neptune will reach 26° of Pisces from April 9th to May 11th, so I think he will be even more fused with the character of Eros and will be in the news for this role more than ever.
Neptune is the signature of films, of glamour and Styles has that oozing out of him. His acting may be just okay, but his star presence has a quality of its own and gets attention. Styles’ own Neptune is in Capricorn in the 3rd House.
Eros expresses more spiritually in Pisces than in other signs, seeing love and sex as more of a sacred rite of passage. It is deeply emotional, going way beyond the point of no return in mirroring itself to others. It looks for true soul mates and raises sex up to its divine level. The use the senses to go beyond the senses with an orgiastic, Tantric feel to love making. They love to share dreams and be romantic but can go over the edge and worship love as a false idol.
No one expected him to have a big film career. He was only 16 when he first burst on the scene on X factor back in 2010, but he appears to have landed this role in a major Marvel series. It was announced on Twitter July 24th 2022. And by July 29th he had signed that five picture deal worth over $100 million. This is huge and a high-water mark for any actor, especially one born out of a boy band.
Asteroid Eros travels fairly quickly. It conjuncts asteroid Psyche every 2-3 years. We periodically get an Eros return every 1.76 years when sexual energy might be higher than usual- or when the identification with love and the cheeky spirit of Eros and/or Cupid is more intense. Eros reached Styles’ natal Eros on March 1st 2022. S o while the announcement was in July, the groundwork for it must have begun earlier in the year.
That’s Eros on Eros – a significant booster to the love juice. 3° is a sufficient orb to interpret asteroid placements. And it’s within orb. Neptune had been hovering 2° degrees away from his natal asteroid Eros for a couple of years but had reached 25° by the time of the announcement in 2022. That was just one degree from Styles’ natal Eros and just a few months after his Eros-Eros conjunction. So that’s sex appeal on film on steroids. And that it is due to come here a couple more times means there’s much more we are going to hear about this over the next year.
One extra booster to his chances to land this major opportunity was that that Jupiter was conjunct Neptune April 12th, 2022. That would have totally amplified the effect of Neptune, and Neptune magnified the effect of Jupiter, so that probably worked massively in his favour to allow it to happen. The Sun conjuncted his Eros on March 26th 2022. Then soon after Jupiter conjuncted Styles’ Eros on April 25th 2022.
So all the planning for this announcement probably happened in March and April and only when the deal was signed was it finally announced in June of that year. This link between asteroid Eros and Style’s career in Hollywood is serendipitous and just feels so right.
3: Styles’ Fashion Style
I never paid much attention to Styles before other than to recognise the cute, cheeky boy look he had going. But it has even made me reconsider him more seriously. Many take issue with all the cross dressing he does, wearing make up and earrings. This makes him the ultimate poster boy for the gender- bending ideology and that can be silly and reductive. The fact that he is so influential could make him consider the impact on younger boys who may want to be like him. The edgy style was all done much better back in the seventies and eighties by Bolan, Bowie, Eno and Boy George- so none of that is particularly new. It just comes with links to transhumanism these days and is almost an inversion of the masculine archetype.
Perhaps it serves to confuse boundaries further and some say we need much less of that now all the teen-girls have grown up and especially as the music business is so corrupted. The music industry is charged with accusations of abuse and even use of mind control techniques where stars are the prisoners of their contracts and forced to do what they are told, not what they truly want.
He brings an Aquarian flair to his role as a singer and celebrity and seems comfortable in the fancy styles he wears. His chart is full of air, so he’s adaptable, quick witted, and seems to tap into the zeitgeist. There is often an affinity actors have for the roles that they play and here I think we can see that it was meant to be somehow. And this alignment with his asteroid Eros could also mean he’s finally following his true Dharma to play this role as Eros.
He even called one of his tours the ‘Love’ tour where he stands in front of a wall of red roses- putting out Eros signals. This suggests he was building up for this role as Eros. But the astrology points to correlation in the skies so I think there’s much deeper stuff going on here, where actual identification with a god can occur and the gods find avatars to play with on earth and take over the personalities of actors, musicians and stars.
Eros become fused with the earthly incarnation such as with Billy Idol who even has a curling lip like a Cupid’s bow. So this casting begins to make sense now. He’s a natural choice whether his experience as an actor is slim or not. It fits him so well.
His asteroid Psyche- the counterpart and consort of Eros- is at 12° in Capricorn so quite status conscious. On X-Factor in the first few months of One Direction shows there was the one lad who stood out- Harry- there was a somewhat sexual side to him that the fans latched on to immediately. The girl fans were ultra zealous and any whisper of his movement went viral on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Hence the death threats to his girlfriends. Only Luis Tomlinson and Zayin Malik from One Direction garnered similar attention. But Styles was league’s ahead in terms of appeal and popularity. Even now with a mansion in West Hollywood, he is followed around by the press and cannot have much of a private life.
Very interesting too that at his first peak of fame eleven years ago, between One Direction’s first and second albums, on March 14th, 2012, the two lover asteroids Eros and Psyche were conjunct. He has a stellium of asteroids in watery, diaphanous Pisces in fact, all mostly in the 5th house, so this is fertile and creative. He has Orpheus at 13 °of Pisces, conjunct Pallas. He has Vesta at 29° of Pisces. So there’s plenty of energy for projects that are playful, experimental as we can see from his style, very colourful and edgy.
He is also a prime example of those born when Saturn was in Pisces in the 90s from 1993-1996 when the internet became widespread and changed people’s lives so radically. So, he’s a real Aquarian millennial and used to lapping up the limelight with Leo on the Midheaven. He is probably highly activated now as are all who have Saturn is in Pisces at 0° exactly where it is in his chart on his birth.
This by itself can bring more media attention to him as it is his Saturn Return. He may be reviewing all he’s done so far to get where he is. It represents a new level of achievement in the world that Saturn confers upon those who have done all the work.
But I think on a personal level it is a call to action to work hard to improve his acting skills as there are many who think he’s not yet up to the task. It could also relate to all the skills he will now need in earnest to maintain this role as Eros through this series of films.
That Mercury is at 29° of Aquarius – an out of sign conjunction with Saturn in Pisces. This could mean he will show a much more mature and serious style of speaking as he has passed all these tests to prove himself up to now, but he could be also much more guarded and careful what he says. He never gave many interviews and that worked in his favour.
There’s also that both Mars and Venus – the primary love players- are in Aquarius expressing through ideas so the boundary between friends and lovers might not be so clear in Styles’ domain. This does not necessarily make him cold though the passion of Mars and Venus as filtered through an air sign could blow hot and cold and in different directions. But this is open to sexual experimentation and kink. It gives a freedom in picking who he might date and there have been quite a few already with a lot of electricity in the mix.
But it is the Eros placement above all that looks as if it is saying he is definitely Eros- at least the comic book version- and he will bring something to that role that is meaningful to him personally, much more than his appearance being right.
